On the 1st of May here in the UK. the morning television programme GMTV ran a short feature “A chance to live forever” and they interviewed the President of The Cryonics Institute Dennis Kowalski …
Little did Dennis know that prior to his interview the interviewers Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid had been making “Sport”, of the up coming piece using phrases, such as “weird”, “completely creepy” and the age old classic “Scam”! Maybe they were trying to grab some extras viewing ratings by once again sensationalising Cryonics?
Having been the victim of judgmental reporting in the past from the BBC on the subject of Cryonics, I was immediately concerned that this would once again turn into a one sided interview, satisfying only the needs off the press. I mean it was Piers Morgan interviewing Dennis, one of the worlds most formidable journalists, what possibly could go wrong?
Certainly Piers initial line of inquiry focused directly on the finances of The Cryonics Institute and he highlighted concerns that, huge amounts money was being made out of Cryonics as a “business”, This line of questioning was in a way a good thing, because of course it meant his researcher hadn’t really looked at the facts closely at all.
Dennis handled his question beautifully, pointing out that in fact that CI was in fact a non-profit organisation.
Dennis Kowalski, President of The Cryonics Institute .. “We are non profit organisation and we also open all our records up for public scrutiny, so you can tell how the money’s spent”.
The dynamics of the interview seemed to change at that moment, because Piers then allowed Dennis to explain his reasons for becoming a Cryonics member, which made very powerful viewing …
Quote from Dennis Kowalski, “I love life and I love my family, so I think it’s worth the opportunity to see if it will work” !
Dennis also continued to say, “How affordable Cryonics can be at $28,000 dollars, most people fund with life assurance”.
From what could of been a very sensational interview, with one of the worlds most controversial journalists, Dennis made an excellent job of normalising the subject of Cryonics. Piers was left with nothing to criticise, as he was left interviewing someone with loving intentions of looking after his family and was doing so with a non profit members organisation.
For once the British press reported the real story of Cryonics … here’s a link to the full interview for those who missed on GMTV last week.
